Following a new product launch event held at Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore on September 19, 2025, sales will begin at pop-up stores and e-commerce sites throughout Japan. You can see premium bags made from upcycled materials, created using our company's craftsmanship and advanced technology.

What is Tsugi-Craft by TOYOTA UPCYCLE?

The "TOYOTA UPCYCLE Project," launched by Toyota Motor Corporation, started in the spring of 2021 with the concept of "Turning 'Waste' into 'Even Better'," aiming to create ethical value that considers the environment, people, and local communities. It breathes new life into waste materials that are difficult to reuse or recycle during the automobile manufacturing process (such as nylon base fabric used in airbags, seat belts, and genuine leather seats), and regenerates and commercializes them as outdoor gear and stationery.

And now, as a new challenge for the "TOYOTA UPCYCLE Project," we are launching the premium upcycling brand "Tsugi-Craft by TOYOTA UPCYCLE." This is a high-quality, sophisticated premium line made from high-quality cowhide waste used in LEXUS seats. The design was created by Takuto Ipposhi, who has worked as a designer for fashion brands both domestically and internationally and currently works as a graphic designer/creative director. We will offer a total of six models, opening up new possibilities for upcycling.

The brand name "Tsugi" embodies the idea of ​​"inheriting, connecting, and moving towards the next future." This philosophy begins with a commitment to utilizing materials to their fullest potential, and symbolizes the inheritance of Japanese craftsmanship, the fusion of tradition and modernity, the connection between people, and ultimately, the "next future" that lies beyond.

The bags being offered by "Tsugi-Craft by TOYOTA UPCYCLE" are crafted using recycled genuine leather originally intended for Lexus seats, produced at a factory in Yamagata Prefecture. The designs, which are created by piecing together recycled materials like a patchwork, are delicately combined to create a sophisticated look. This process requires highly skilled craftsmanship and was achieved after numerous prototypes.

The collection of six unisex styles features a simple yet urban design that complements a wide range of lifestyles, from everyday use to business and travel. Available in a single-tone black, this collection maximizes the superior texture and durability unique to Lexus leather, matching any scene or style.
