Japanese vegetable-tanned leather
Nume Leather
Himeji Leather, the heart of Japan's leather industry since ancient times.
Himeji City in Hyogo Prefecture has long been known as a major leather production area in Japan. Its history is long, and it is said that since leather processing techniques were introduced by immigrants during the Asuka period, the Harima Himeji area, with its abundant water resources, became the center of leather manufacturing.
Even today, there are more than 200 tanneries (leather tanning companies), and while inheriting traditional techniques, they are also actively developing new types of leather. The vegetable-tanned leather that we handle is also made by tanneries in Himeji City.

Available in four colors, these leathers also age beautifully.
Vegetable-tanned leather refers to leather made using a traditional method called tannin tanning. Tannin is an astringent component of plants, and vegetable-tanned leather, made without surface processing such as embossing, is also called "the leather of leathers." It has a luxurious sheen and firm texture that makes it instantly recognizable as genuine leather, and it is said to be the leather with the most authentic leather character. Another appeal of vegetable-tanned leather is its aging process. The longer you use it, the more it shines and the deeper the color becomes. Even scratches become part of its character, transforming it into a one-of-a-kind piece.
